Clothes for a Cause – taking training one step further

July 18, 2016

At the National Retail Association (NRA), we deliver retail training and work experience for students of all ages through our accredited Ready for Retail Program. Retail is a great place to learn transferable skills, however we are taking it one step further.

The NRA Training Team noticed that many students, whether they are entering the workforce for the first time or migrants re-training to begin life in Australia, are not in a position to purchase work appropriate clothing.

These first steps towards independence can be daunting, so our training team have been assisting students to put their best foot forward through clothing donations.

“Something as simple as a clean business shirt and pair of black pants has empowered my students and given them the confidence boost they needed to secure employment. It’s a fantastic feeling watching our students thrive in and outside of the classroom.” – Deb Baker, NRA Program Manager & Trainer.

The NRA Training Team believe that in-depth training is the start of a journey to employment and financial freedom. Through Clothes for a Cause, we aim to give our students the best possible start to their retail career.

All donations are set up as pop up shops in our training rooms, where students learn the skills of merchandising, use POS systems and interact with customers. After they have practiced these skills, students are then welcome to keep any items they could utilise for potential interviews and employment.

We welcome you to donate any work appropriate clothes, accessories or clothing rails to our Clothes for a Cause to help our students achieve independence.

If you would like to donate to Clothes for a Cause we will accepting the following items:

Clothing appropriate for:
o Females and males
o 15-30 years of age
o Hospitality to corporate clothing
o Clean and ready to wear

Accessories:
o Bags
o Jewellery
o Work appropriate shoes
o Scarfs, gloves, socks

Clothing rails and hangers

Toiletries

Donations can be posted or personally delivered to the NRA Head Office at 6 Overend Street, East Brisbane Qld 4169 between the hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm.
